What applies at BKK VerbundPlus from 25 and from 30?
Family insurance ends at 25
Until your 25th birthday you can be covered as a student through a parent who is a member of a statutory fund. This applies as long as your total income in 2026 does not exceed 565 € per month, or 603 € for a minijob (§ 10 SGB V). The age limit can only be extended for periods of statutory service or a voluntary service, not for study periods. After that, your cover at BKK VerbundPlus continues as a student, with the amounts calculated above. From your 23rd birthday, the childless care surcharge also applies, which is 5.13 € more per month. More is in the glossary entry Family insurance during studies.
Student insurance ends at 30
Compulsory student insurance ends at the end of the semester in which you turn 30 (§ 5 para. 1 no. 9 SGB V). The age limit is decisive.
An extension is possible if the type of training or personal reasons justify going beyond the limit, for example in a second educational pathway or for child-rearing. Details are in Health insurance as a student over 30 and Studying at 30.
When student insurance ends, you usually remain a voluntary member of BKK VerbundPlus, unless you prove other cover. A minimum assessment base then applies. The minimum contribution for 2026 is calculated as follows:
- Minimum assessment base: 3,955.00 € reference figure divided by 3 gives 1,318.33 € per month.
- Health insurance: reduced rate 14.0 % plus additional contribution 3.89 % gives 17.89 %, which is 235.85 €.
- Long-term care insurance: 47.46 € (3.6 %) with a child, 55.37 € (4.2 %) without children.
- Total: 283.31 € with a child, 291.22 € without children.
The minimum contribution assumes low income. With higher income, the contribution is based on that income, up to the contribution assessment ceiling of 5,812.50 € per month.
What applies to working students and minijobbers at BKK VerbundPlus?

| Employment permanently above 20 hours | The working student privilege ends, and compulsory insurance as an employee may apply. This takes priority over student insurance. |
| Minijob up to 603 € per month | Student insurance continues. For family insurance, the limit for minijobs is 603 € instead of 565 €. |
The classification is based on the joint circular of the umbrella associations from 2016. In borderline cases such as night work, semester breaks or several jobs, the fund decides individually. The details are described in Working student: the 20-hour rule.
