What applies at SKD BKK from 25 and from 30?

Family insurance until 25

Until your 25th birthday you can be covered free of charge through a parent who is a member of a statutory fund. SKD BKK names the income limit as 565 € a month, or 603 € with a mini job. The age limit can be extended in certain cases, for example after compulsory military or voluntary service. After that you are insured as a student.

Student insurance until 30

Compulsory student insurance ends with the end of the semester in which you turn 30 (section 5(1) no. 9 SGB V). Exceptions are possible. The guides Health insurance as a student over 30 and Studying at 30 (both in German) explain the rules in detail.

After that you move to voluntary insurance. A minimum assessment basis applies, calculated with the statutory formula:

  1. Assessment basis: 3,955.00 € reference amount divided by 3 gives 1,318.33 € a month.
  2. Health insurance: 14.0 % standard rate plus 2.98 % additional contribution, together 16.98 %, gives 223.85 €.
  3. Care insurance: 47.46 € with a child, 55.37 € without children.
  4. Total: 271.31 € with a child, 279.22 € without children.

With higher income the contribution follows that income, up to the contribution ceiling of 5,812.50 € a month.
