What does the semester fee cost in Osnabrück?

For the University of Osnabrück, our searches did not return an amount with a source and a date, so we do not state one. What we could verify is the breakdown from Hochschule Osnabrück for its courses in Osnabrück and Lingen in the summer semester 2027. It serves as an orientation if you study there, and it shows how a fee in this city can be made up.

Calculation example (assumption): spread over six months, 459.30 euros comes to about 76.55 euros per month, of which 37.80 euros is the ticket. The Hochschule figure of 442 euros comes to about 73.67 euros per month, but that figure does not apply to the university.

How can you check the university’s fee yourself?

The most reliable route runs through three places: the re-enrolment notice with the amount and the purpose of payment, the university’s fee page with the breakdown, and the fee regulations of the student body (Beitragsordnung der Studierendenschaft). Note the semester and the retrieval date, because ticket shares often change from one semester to the next. Once you know the amount, enter it into the calculation below.

What does housing cost in Osnabrück?

The DAAD accommodation finder (Wohnheimfinder) lists the Natruper Straße 66 residence of the Osnabrück student services organisation. It offers unfurnished single rooms of about 14 to 20 square metres in shared flats (WG) for 311 to 329 euros per month. The listing states neither a date nor whether the figure is warm rent (including utilities) or cold rent (excluding them). We did not check other residences or private rentals. Because nothing is furnished, furnishing costs come on top.

Health and long-term care insurance up to age 22 (assumption: 2.9 percent additional contribution)142.96 euros142.96 euros

Add the semester fee from your notice, divided by six months, to this sum. Before you compare offers, ask the student services organisation whether the rent includes utilities.

Which health insurance applies to students in Osnabrück?

The contribution does not depend on where you study. If you are not covered as a family member, you pay the amounts in the table as a compulsory member. Family insurance (Familienversicherung) is possible during training up to your 25th birthday, provided your total income does not exceed 565 euros per month (2026). For a mini-job, the limit is 603 euros (§ 10 SGB V).

For the calculation: from an assessment base of 855 euros, 10.22 percent goes to health insurance (87.38 euros), 2.9 percent additional contribution as an average (24.80 euros) and 3.6 or 4.2 percent to long-term care insurance (30.78 or 35.91 euros). The total is 142.96 euros up to age 22 and 148.09 euros from age 23 without children (status as of 1 January 2026, GKV-Spitzenverband, § 236 SGB V).

To be exempt from compulsory insurance, you must apply within three months of the start of your obligation. The exemption requires that you have another entitlement to cover, and it cannot be revoked (§ 8 SGB V). Whether statutory or private cover suits you depends on your health, your career goals and your plans. The comparison is in our guide Public or Private Health Insurance for International Students.

Which funding and which side job fit?

The benchmarks are the BAföG assessment rates as of January 2026: 855 euros for students living away from home up to age 24, and 992 euros for those aged 25 to 29 (German Student Services Organisation). From 1 January 2027, the mini-job threshold rises from 603 to 633 euros (Minijob-Zentrale). For more on how earnings are counted against BAföG, see BAföG and side jobs (in German).
