Where is BKK EUREGIO open?
According to the GKV-Spitzenverband insurer list, BKK EUREGIO is open in Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia. The homepage names Heinsberg as its location. The application document for students describes compulsory insurance in student health insurance and the digital membership application. The homepage names no regional restriction on its benefits.
What does BKK EUREGIO cost as a student?
The insurer does not offer its own student tariff, but the statutory student health insurance. For our calculation, we use the assessment base of 855 € per month. The application document names no euro amounts and no assessment base.
- Basic contribution: 10.22% of 855 € equals 87.38 €.
- Additional contribution: 3.39% of 855 € equals 28.98 €.
- Health insurance: 87.38 € plus 28.98 € equals 116.36 €.
- Long-term care insurance: 30.78 € under 23 or with a child, 35.91 € childless from 23.
- Total: 147.14 € or 152.27 € per month.
The basic contribution for students equals seven tenths of the general contribution rate of 14.6%. One percentage point of additional contribution corresponds to 8.55 € per month for students. From the 23rd birthday, the childless long-term care surcharge of 5.13 € per month applies.
Family insurance until 25
Many students stay covered as family members through a parent at first. Until your 25th birthday, this applies as long as your total income in 2026 does not exceed 565 € per month, or 603 € for a mini-job (§ 10 SGB V). According to the application document, all statutory benefits of BKK EUREGIO are then available at no extra cost. After leaving family insurance, you can insure yourself through student health insurance. Our glossary entry on family insurance during studies explains more, currently available in German.
Student insurance ends at 30
Compulsory student insurance begins no earlier than the start of your studies and usually ends with graduation, at the latest with the semester in which you turn 30. In exceptional cases, cover can continue beyond this limit. After that, you can remain voluntarily insured. A minimum assessment base of 1,318.33 € applies, which is one third of the reference value of 3,955 €.
- Health insurance: 14.0% plus 3.39% additional contribution equals 229.26 €.
- Long-term care insurance: 47.46 € with a child, 55.37 € childless.
- Total: 276.72 € with a child, 284.63 € childless.
With higher income, the contribution is calculated on that income up to the contribution assessment ceiling. If you later take up employment, you become compulsorily insured there.
Working students and mini-jobs
Neither the application document nor the homepage names rules for working students or mini-jobs. The statutory limits apply. What matters are weekly hours and the amount earned.
| Situation | Effect |
| Working student up to 20 hours per week | Student insurance continues. |
| Employment permanently above 20 hours | Compulsory insurance as an employee may apply and takes precedence over student insurance. |
| Mini-job up to 603 € per month | No effect on student insurance. |
For borderline cases such as night work, semester breaks or several jobs, the insurer decides individually.
Bonus and additional benefits
The homepage speaks of premium benefits for trainees and students but names no euro amounts and no conditions. Statutory benefits such as medical treatment, hospital care, medicines and preventive care are largely the same at all statutory insurers. Differences mainly concern the additional contribution and voluntary offers.
- Cash bonus: according to the homepage, for preventive check-ups or vaccinations. The page does not state the amount.
- Additional preventive check-ups: subsidised, the page does not state the amount of the subsidy.
- Travel vaccinations: according to the homepage, costs for private trips abroad are covered in full.
- Osteopathy and natural medicines: described, without amounts or conditions.
