Student Family Insurance 2026: Income Limits and Age

Student family insurance in 2026 has a 565 euro income limit and an age limit of 25. Here is when it applies, and how it compares with the KVdS.

Definition of student family insurance

Student family insurance (Familienversicherung) is the free co-insurance of spouses, registered partners and children of statutory insured members. For students, the child rule up to age 25 during training or studies is the key point. Family insurance takes precedence over the KVdS where its conditions are met.

Example

You have 540 euros from a minijob and 20 euros of interest income. Your total income is therefore 560 euros, below 565 euros. Family insurance remains in place if you meet the other conditions. If income above 565 euros is added, family insurance generally ends.
