Contents

Runway for students is not listed as a separate plan on the provider’s pricing page. If you want to use Runway for videos or images during your studies, you need one of the regular plans or the free plan. This guide shows what is documented, what to check before you sign up and whom to ask.

Short answer: Runway lists no student offer on its pricing page (as of October 2026). The free plan includes 125 one-time credits. The Standard plan costs 15 US dollars a month, or 12 US dollars a month when billed annually. The Pro plan costs 35 US dollars a month. Last updated: October 2026. Offers change often.

The key points

  • The pricing page lists no student plan and no student discount.
  • The free plan includes 125 one-time credits. According to the provider’s FAQ, they do not expire.
  • Standard costs 15 US dollars a month and Pro 35. Annual billing lowers the monthly prices to 12 and 28 US dollars.
  • The “For Education” link appears only under Enterprise. The pricing page gives no terms for it.
  • Monthly credits expire on Standard and Pro. Plan your use month by month.

Is there a student offer for Runway?

Not on the pricing page, as of October 2026. It lists the Free, Standard, Pro and Max plans. None is marked as a student plan, and the page says nothing about proof of status, terms or countries. Under Enterprise, the navigation links to “For Education”, a page for educational institutions. We did not check its contents. Ask the provider or your university directly whether access is available.

What does Runway cost during your studies? A worked example

Assumption: you use the Standard plan for twelve months. Billed monthly, that is 12 × 15 US dollars, or 180 US dollars. Billed annually, you pay 12 × 12 US dollars, or 144 US dollars. The difference of 36 US dollars a year matches the saving stated on the pricing page. Standard includes 625 credits a month, Pro 2,250. Whether the smaller plan is enough depends on how many credits your projects use.

How to activate the offer

There is no student offer to activate for Runway as of October 2026. These steps help you check your options without signing up for a subscription.

  1. Test the free plan with your 125 credits on a typical project before you pay.
  2. Check the pricing page again shortly before you buy, because plans and terms change.
  3. Ask your university whether it provides a university licence (Campuslizenz) for AI video tools. Our guide Campuslizenzen: Welche Software deine Hochschule dir stellt (in German) explains how this works.
  4. Choose your billing cycle deliberately. Annual billing lowers the monthly price, but you pay for the year in advance.

What happens after your studies?

Without a student plan, the end of your studies does not change the price on Runway. If you have a subscription, you keep paying until you cancel. Unused monthly credits expire on Standard and Pro, according to the FAQ. On Max, up to one month of unused credits carries over. If you use a university licence, access usually depends on your enrolment. Your university can tell you how long it lasts. Cancel any subscription you no longer need before the next billing date.

What to watch for when using AI at university

Your examination regulations (Prüfungsordnung) and your university’s rules decide whether and how you may use AI-generated videos or images. Some universities require you to disclose AI use. Our guide KI in der Hausarbeit: Was erlaubt ist und was du offenlegen musst (in German) gives an overview. Do not upload personal recordings or unpublished research data. Our guide Datenschutz bei KI-Tools im Studium (in German) explains what happens to your input. Check every result before you use it.

Which details to check before you buy

  • The amount shown at the end of checkout, including taxes.
  • How many credits are included and whether unused credits expire.
  • The terms of use on rights to generated content.
  • The notice period and the contract term of the plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can I test Runway for free during my studies?

Yes, with the free plan. It includes 125 one-time credits, which according to the provider do not expire. For regular projects they are probably not enough. Estimate how many attempts your work needs before you start.

Is Runway available for universities?

The provider links to a page for educational institutions under “For Education”. We did not check whether a university can get access or on which terms. Ask your IT department or your chair first.

Which plan suits a study project?

It depends on the scope. The free plan is enough to try the tool out. Standard includes 625 credits a month, Pro 2,250. Compare how many credits you need in a month before you choose a plan.

Is Runway billed in euros?

The pricing page shows US dollars. You see the euro amount at checkout. We do not convert, because exchange rates and taxes can change.

Is annual billing worth it?

If you are sure to use the plan for twelve months, the monthly price is lower on annual billing, according to the page. If you need Runway for one semester only, monthly billing is more flexible.

What to do now

  1. Check the pricing page before you choose a plan.
  2. Test the free plan on a typical project.
  3. Ask your university about licences for AI tools before you pay privately.
  4. Decide how many credits you need each month, then choose the plan.
