The University of Regensburg has one of the leaner semester fees compared with many other universities. For the 2026/27 winter semester, its re-enrolment page lists just two items. This guide shows you the amounts, what the semester ticket of the Regensburg transport association (Regensburger Verkehrsverbund, RVV) covers and which deadline applied. The university’s page is dated 30 July 2026.
Short answer: For the 2026/27 winter semester, the University of Regensburg gives its semester fee as €208.00 in total. This comprises €82.00 for the student services contribution (Studierendenwerksbeitrag) and €126.00 for the RVV semester ticket. Re-enrolment and full payment were required by 17 July 2026. How high is the semester fee in Regensburg?
The university states a total of €208.00 on its re-enrolment page. The page lists no further items, for example no separate administration fee. If the payment notice in the portal comes out higher, it is worth comparing it with this breakdown.
| Item | Amount per semester | Share of total |
|---|---|---|
| Student services contribution | €82.00 | about 39 percent |
| Semester ticket (RVV) | €126.00 | about 61 percent |
| Total | €208.00 | 100 percent |
The percentage values are our own calculation based on the two amounts from the university. At €126.00 for a half year, the ticket works out to €21.00 per month.
What does the semester ticket cover in Regensburg?
The ticket is part of the compulsory fee and, according to the Studierendenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz (student services organisation for Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate), applies across the whole RVV. How it compares with other solutions is explained in our guide Semester Ticket and Germany Ticket: Student Travel Costs.
| Feature | Information from the student services organisation |
|---|---|
| Area | Regensburg transport association (RVV), over 100 bus lines and 6 rail connections |
| Validity | Lecture periods and semester breaks, for students of the University of Regensburg and of OTH Regensburg (Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule) |
| New from winter semester 2026/27 | Section from Sinzing/Riegling to Neustadt an der Donau on agilis trains in the Kelheim district |
| Guest students | cannot purchase the semester ticket |
| Refund | for severe disability with entitlement to free local public transport, application through the counselling service of the student services organisation |
Other RVV tickets end at Sinzing/Riegling. If you commute to Neustadt an der Donau, you have only benefited from the student ticket since this semester.
Until when did you have to re-enrol and pay?
The university gives 17 July 2026 for both the re-enrolment and the transfer of the full amount for the 2026/27 winter semester. That deadline has now passed. If you missed it, contact the student administration office immediately. The general consequences are described in our guide Semester Fee Deadline: Re-enrolment and Consequences.
| Date | Date according to the university |
|---|---|
| Re-enrolment and payment winter semester 2026/27 | by 17 July 2026 |
| End of the summer semester 2026, de-registration if not re-enrolled | 30 September 2026 |
| Validity of the updated UR card (UR-Karte) | until 31 March 2027 |
The UR card therefore stays valid until the end of March 2027, provided that you re-enrolled in time. Further deadlines for the semester are collected in the Deadline calendar for winter semester 2026/27.
How do you calculate the fee for your semester?
Assumption: you are properly enrolled and have no grounds for exemption or refund. Then you pay €82.00 plus €126.00, which is €208.00. Over a study year with two semesters, that comes to €416.00, of which €252.00 goes to the ticket. The re-enrolment page does not list any further costs, such as copying or lab fees.
Frequently asked questions
Does the semester ticket also apply during semester breaks?
Yes. The student services organisation states that the ticket applies during lecture periods and semester breaks. It applies to students of the University of Regensburg as well as those of OTH Regensburg.
Can I be exempt from the semester ticket?
The re-enrolment page does not name a general exemption rule. The student services organisation describes only the refund for students with a severe disability who are entitled to free local public transport. Clarify anything else with the university before you pay.
What happens if I missed the deadline of 17 July 2026?
The university states that students who did not re-enrol are de-registered at the end of the semester. For the summer semester 2026, that date was 30 September 2026. Contact the student administration office immediately and describe your case in writing.
Do guest students need the semester ticket?
According to the student services organisation, guest students cannot purchase the semester ticket. They therefore do not pay the same fee as regularly enrolled students. The exact fee for guest students is set by the university and is not stated in this guide.
What is the ticket share per month?
Mathematically €21.00, if you divide €126.00 by six months. This is a pure conversion of the semester amount and not a price stated by the transport association.
What you should do now
- Open the re-enrolment page of the University of Regensburg and compare the amount in the portal with €208.00.
- If you have a severe disability with entitlement to free local public transport, clarify the refund with the student services organisation.
- Note the date of the next re-enrolment from the portal and plan for it early in the summer.
- Keep the proof of payment until the re-enrolment appears in your records.
