The Studierendenwerk share is the largest item and applies to all students, even if you do not use the services. In addition, certain groups pay tuition fees: 1,500 euros for students from outside the EU/EEA who are subject to fees, and 650 euros for a second degree subject to fees.
When do you have to re-enrol?
The university lists its re-enrolment periods on its semester dates page. The re-enrolment page names the same end dates without a year: 15 June for the autumn/winter semester and 1 December for the spring/summer semester. The start dates (1 May and 15 October) come from the semester dates page; the re-enrolment page names no start date.
| Semester | Re-enrolment period | Status in October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Autumn/winter semester 2026/27 | 1 May to 15 June 2026 | expired |
| Spring/summer semester 2027 | 15 October to 1 December 2026 | running now |

Enter your student ID number (Matrikelnummer) and your name as the payment reference. Plan the transfer a few days ahead.
What happens if you re-enrol late?
If you re-enrol late, a late fee of 20 euros applies. If you have completed your studies and do not re-enrol, you will be deregistered automatically at the end of the semester. If you have applied for a master’s programme at the University of Mannheim, you do not re-enrol. Instead, once admission and proof of payment have been submitted, you are transferred (umgeschrieben) to the master’s programme. If you cannot pay the amount in time, contact the student records office (Studierendensekretariat) beforehand.
What does the semester fee cost over the whole degree?
Assumption: the amount stays at 194 euros per semester. A six-semester bachelor’s programme would then come to 1,164 euros in semester fees, and a four-semester master’s programme to 776 euros. These figures are a model calculation, because the amount can change.
| Stage of study | Semesters | Total at 194 euros (assumption) |
|---|---|---|
| One academic year | 2 | 388 euros |
| Bachelor | 6 | 1,164 euros |
| Master | 4 | 776 euros |
Frequently asked questions
Is a semester ticket included in the fee?
Neither the fee page nor the re-enrolment page lists a semester ticket or a Germany semester ticket as an item. Ask the student representatives whether an offer exists and what it costs before you buy a ticket. General information is in the guide Semester Ticket and Germany Ticket: Student Travel Costs.
Is the semester fee the same as a tuition fee?
No. The semester fee is a regular charge that all students pay. Tuition fees are separate and only apply to certain groups, such as students from outside the EU/EEA.
Why do I pay a share to the student body?
The official student body represents the interests of students and finances its work through the fee. At 14 euros the share is small, but it is part of the compulsory contribution.
How do I know that my re-enrolment is effective?
Check your re-enrolment overview to see whether the payment has been recorded. Keep the transfer receipt until the re-enrolment appears in the overview.
Does the amount apply to every semester?
The page gives the amount for the spring/summer semester 2027. Check it again for every semester instead of adopting the value from the previous year.
