What is included in the €361 semester fee?

The fee is split into four items. The table shows the amounts as the student council reports them, and each item’s share of the total. The shares are our own calculation.

ItemAmountShare of total (own calculation)
Germany semester ticket€226.80about 63 percent
Student services organisation Dresden€112.73about 31 percent
Student council and faculty councils (Fachschaften)€14.09about 4 percent
Mobibike€7.38about 2 percent

The semester ticket is by far the largest item. The student services organisation receives another €112.73. According to TU Dresden, students on leave of absence who do not use the ticket pay €126.82. Neither TU Dresden nor the student council shows a separate administration fee. Check the current figure again for later semesters.

Is the Germany semester ticket worth it within the fee?

Whether the ticket is worth it for you depends on how often you travel. You can roughly convert the ticket share into a monthly figure. Assumption: the semester lasts six months. Then the ticket works out to about €37.80 per month (€226.80 divided by 6, our own calculation). Compare this figure with what you would otherwise spend on travel.

This does not settle the question for you. What matters is that the amount is part of the semester fee and is not billed separately. You can find an overview of ticket offers in our guide Semester Ticket and Germany Ticket: Student Travel Costs.

How do I calculate the semester fee over my whole degree?

Assumption: the fee stays at €361 per semester. Then one year with two semesters comes to €722. A bachelor’s degree with six semesters comes to €2,166, and a master’s degree with four semesters comes to €1,444.

Study phaseSemestersTotal at €361 (assumption)
One year of study2€722
Bachelor’s degree6€2,166
Master’s degree4€1,444

The amounts change as soon as the student council or the student services organisation publishes new rates. The totals are therefore only a guide.

Why is the Germany semester ticket part of the fee?

TU Dresden links the ticket to the semester fee, and the student council reports it that way. The amount of the fee does not depend on how often you use the ticket.

The student council is the representative body of the students at TU Dresden. According to the student council’s figure for the 2026/27 winter semester, it receives €14.09 per semester from the fee.

Where do the shares in the table come from?

The amounts come from the student council’s figures. We calculated the percentage shares ourselves and rounded them to whole percentages. The rounded shares add up to 100 percent.
