The semester fee (Semesterbeitrag) at LMU Munich is 97.00 euros for the winter term 2026/27, according to the university. Unlike at many other universities, it contains no semester ticket, because the ticket contract has been suspended since the winter term 2023/24 until further notice. This guide shows what the 97 euros cover, how the amount has developed and which deadlines LMU states.
Short answer: The LMU Munich semester fee is 97.00 euros in the winter term 2026/27. It is the basic contribution for the Munich student services organisation (Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern); no solidarity contribution for a semester ticket is charged. For this term, payment had to arrive by 13 July 2026. Last updated: October 2026, source: LMU.
The most important points at a glance
- Total for the winter term 2026/27: 97.00 euros, listed as the basic contribution for the Studierendenwerk (the fee page shows the summer term 2026 as its latest row; the re-enrolment page gives the same amount for 2026/27).
- The solidarity contribution for the semester ticket (Semesterticket) has been dropped since the winter term 2023/24, and the LMUcard no longer counts as a travel authorisation in the Munich transport network (MVV).

- Anyone who misses the deadline is exmatriculated, according to LMU; for the winter term 2026/27 with effect from 30 September 2026.
- Any credit already on your fee account reduces the amount you have to pay.
How much is the semester fee at LMU Munich?
LMU publishes a table of the basic contribution and, until 2023, the ticket share on its page about Studierendenwerk contributions. For the summer term 2026 it shows a total of 97.00 euros, and the LMU re-enrolment page (in German) gives the same basic contribution for the winter term 2026/27. The university does not list further items in these overviews, such as one for the student body (Studierendenschaft) or for administration.
| Term | Studierendenwerk (basic contribution) | Semester ticket | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Winter term 2026/27 | 97.00 euros | dropped | 97.00 euros |
| Summer term 2026 | 97.00 euros | dropped | 97.00 euros |
| Winter term 2024/25 | 85.00 euros | dropped | 85.00 euros |

| Winter term 2022/23 | 75.00 euros | 63.00 euros | 138.00 euros |
Source of the table: LMU, page on Studierendenwerk contributions. The page shows no row for the summer term 2025 or the winter term 2025/26, so we give no amounts for them. The winter term 2026/27 appears only on the re-enrolment page, not in the table.
What happened to the semester ticket?
Until the summer term 2023, LMU students paid a solidarity contribution for the semester ticket on top of the basic fee, most recently 77.30 euros. According to the LMU semester ticket page (in German), the contract has been suspended since the winter term 2023/24 until further notice, the mandatory contribution is dropped, and the LMUcard is no longer valid as a ticket in the MVV, not even in off-peak hours.
In practice, you plan your transport separately from the semester fee. Which option makes sense depends on your route and how often you travel. For an overview of the Deutschlandticket and semester tickets, see our guide Affordable travel as a student (in German). We do not recommend a particular fare.
Which deadline applies to re-enrolment?
For the winter term 2026/27, LMU gives 13 July 2026 as the deadline for payment to be received. The announcement by the registrar (in German) sets the payment period from 10 June to 13 July 2026. If you are enrolled at several Bavarian universities and paid at another one, you must submit a written re-enrolment request to LMU within the same period.
A second announcement (in German) gives 14 September 2026 as the end of the deadline for the fees for re-enrolment and for re-matriculation. The file name also refers to the senior citizens programme. The texts do not make clear how this date relates to 13 July. Assumption: 13 July is the regular deadline for re-enrolment and 14 September applies to re-matriculation. If in doubt, ask the registrar (Studentenkanzlei).

How do you check your re-enrolment in three steps?
- Open the re-enrolment documents for your term in the LMU online portal and read the amount shown.
- Compare it with the 97.00 euro basic contribution. If the sum differs, a credit from earlier terms or a special rule may explain it.
- Pay with your matriculation number as the payment reference to the account named in the documents, and make sure the money arrives before the deadline.
