Camber Cloud is mainly interesting for students who need cloud environments for programming and AI projects. The offer depends on the GitHub Student Developer Pack. This guide shows which amounts GitHub currently lists and what to watch for.
Short answer: Camber Cloud is available to students through the GitHub Student Developer Pack. GitHub currently lists 40 CPU hours, 5 GPU hours, 50 GB of storage and 50 agent messages per month (source: education.github.com/pack, last updated: October 2026). Check with the provider whether and how these amounts renew. Offers change often.
The essentials
- Student access to Camber Cloud runs through the GitHub Student Developer Pack. You sign in with GitHub.
- The Pack page lists 40 CPU hours, 5 GPU hours, 50 GB of storage and 50 agent messages per month (last updated October 2026).
- GitHub’s September 2025 announcement named an earlier version with 200 CPU hours, 75 GB and 300 requests. The current values apply.
- Duration, renewal and access conditions are on the provider’s page, which also shows the amounts you see when you sign up.
- Exam regulations at your university and data protection apply regardless of the offer.
What is Camber Cloud?
Camber Cloud is a cloud platform for programming and AI projects. GitHub included it as a partner in the Student Developer Pack. On its GitHub Student Pack page, the provider describes a student plan with compute, storage and the AI agent Nova.
Offers at a glance
| Offer | Regular price | Student price | Duration | Verification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Camber Cloud via the GitHub Student Developer Pack: 40 CPU hours, 5 GPU hours, 50 GB storage, 50 agent messages per month | see provider page | Included in the Pack (per education.github.com/pack) | see provider page | Sign-in with GitHub, student check through the Pack |
| Earlier version per GitHub announcement of September 2025: 200 CPU hours, 75 GB storage, 300 requests | see provider page | see provider page | see provider page | see provider page |
The amounts that count are those GitHub lists on the Pack page and the provider shows when you sign up.
How to activate the offer
Access runs through the GitHub Student Developer Pack. Proceed as follows:
- Apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack at education.github.com. GitHub checks your student status. The article GitHub Student Developer Pack: price, requirements and verification (in German) explains the process.
- Wait for approval before you open the partner offers.
- Open the provider’s page at cambercloud.com/github-student-pack and follow the start link.
- Sign up with your GitHub account.
- Check the current amounts, duration and renewal in your account, and note them down.
Does the offer apply in Germany?
The Student Developer Pack requires proof of student status, which GitHub checks when you apply. Whether the Camber offer applies in Germany is shown on the provider’s page. Offers that apply only in the United States cannot be used from Germany.
What does access cost after the offer?
The Pack page lists the amounts for students. Whether there are paid plans after the offer ends or at higher usage is shown on the provider’s pricing page. Use this list to keep track of your usage:
- Note how many CPU and GPU hours your projects use each week.
- Test scripts on a small dataset before you start the full run.
- Shut down environments after use so that no hours run in the background.
- Calculate with the Pack values. Assumption: a project needs 10 CPU hours. Then 40 CPU hours cover four such projects, as long as the amount does not change.
Which rules apply to AI and data?
Your GitHub account is linked to the offer. Therefore do not store credentials, personal data or unpublished research data in public repositories. Your university’s rules on examinations and AI assistance take priority. Check AI output yourself before you adopt code. More on data protection is in Data protection for AI tools at university (in German).
What happens after your studies?
Student offers generally depend on your status as a student. After de-registration the access can end. Keep code and project data on storage you control or in repositories you manage yourself. Whether access continues after graduation is shown on the provider’s page. For how GitHub sign-ins work with student offers, see Sign in with GitHub: which student offers you unlock only via GitHub (in German).
Frequently asked questions
Is Camber Cloud free for students?
The GitHub Pack page lists Camber with the amounts above for students. Whether and for how long the access stays free of charge is shown on the provider’s page. Check duration and renewal before you start.
Do I need the GitHub Student Developer Pack?
According to GitHub, access through the Pack is possible. Whether there is another route is shown by the provider.
How much compute do I get?
The Pack page currently lists 40 CPU hours, 5 GPU hours, 50 GB of storage and 50 agent messages per month. For larger graphics processor runs, see Modal for students: offer, price and use at university (in German).
Is Camber Cloud better than Modal?
That cannot be said in general. Both offers target developers, but they differ in performance, sign-up route and target group. Which one fits depends on your project.
Can I use the access for my thesis?
That is possible if the terms of use allow it and your university sets no rules on computing resources and data. Check this before you upload the first dataset.
