- Private addresses such as Gmail or Outlook are not sufficient.

What is Deepnote and who is the plan for?
Deepnote is a platform for Jupyter notebooks in the cloud. You write code in Python or SQL, analyze data and create charts, and several people can work on the same notebook. This is practical for statistics exercises, data science seminars or group projects with data analysis. If you only occasionally evaluate a table, a spreadsheet or Google Colab for students will do the job too.
When the plan fits and when it does not
The plan fits if you work with data regularly, edit notebooks together with others and do not want to install software locally. It is less suitable if you can only work offline or if your data may not be processed in a cloud for legal reasons. In that case, a local installation of Jupyter is the better choice. Check in advance whether cloud processing matches the rules of your university.

- As an alternative, sign in with a GitHub account that has the GitHub Student Developer Pack. According to the provider, this check runs automatically.
- In the app, open Settings, choose Upgrade and then Education plan. There you can also start the verification later.
- If Deepnote does not recognise your university address, write to [email protected]. The manual review takes a few days.
Which rules apply to data and exams?
An Education plan does not change the rules of your university. Check the examination regulations and the requirements of your university before you use AI features in projects or theses. Do not enter personal data or unpublished research data into notebooks before you have read the provider’s privacy policy. You check AI output yourself before you adopt it. More on this in the guide Data protection with AI tools in study, and on the rules of individual universities in AI rules at universities.
What happens after your studies?
The Education plan depends on your status as a student. Whether and when access ends after you leave the university is up to the provider. The provider page gives no deadline for this. Therefore, back up important notebooks and data in good time, before your university address stops working. What happens to university accounts and licenses after you leave is explained in the guide University email after leaving the university.
