Why is there no semester ticket in the fee any more?
Since the 2023/24 winter semester, the situation for students in Germany has changed, because the Germany ticket or the education ticket was introduced. FAU therefore no longer includes a share for a semester ticket in the fee. If you want to use a ticket, you buy it separately.
Anyone comparing the fee with earlier semesters will see a difference that lies not with the university but with the ticket. The Germany ticket is a separate decision that you make independently of re-enrolment.
The reduced Germany ticket for students in Bavaria is valid on local public transport across Germany. According to the FAU notice of July 2026, it costs €43 per month. An older, undated FAU page on the semester ticket, which refers to the 2023/24 winter semester and the 2024 summer semester, gives €29 per month. That figure is considered outdated; the 2026 notice is the reference. Still check the current price with the provider before you book.
How do you pay the semester fee?
FAU requires payment by bank transfer. You will find the transfer form in the campus management system campo under the menu item Studienservice (student services). The bank details are on the page on re-enrolment and the semester fee. Compare them with the notice before you transfer the money.
- Log in to campo and open the Studienservice area.
- Get the transfer form for the semester you are paying for.
- Transfer €82 to the bank details from the FAU notice.
- Keep the receipt until the re-enrolment is confirmed.
When was re-enrolment for winter semester 2026/27?
Re-enrolment for winter semester 2026/27 ran from 1 to 8 July 2026. FAU gives no time of day, so it is best to complete re-enrolment early in the period rather than on the last day. For the summer semester 2027, the notice gives no period, so you must ask FAU.
If you were unable to re-enrol in time, ask the student services office of FAU which steps are still possible. This guide cannot give you binding advice, because the answer depends on your individual case.
What does a study year at FAU cost?
Assumption: both semesters cost €82 each. Then one study year comes to €164 for the semester fee. The Germany ticket is an additional, separate booking if you use it. Assumption: at a constant €43 per month, a six-month semester would come to €258 for the ticket (own calculation).
A reliable figure for the summer semester 2027 is not available in the sources consulted. The amount of €82 is therefore a guide until FAU publishes a new figure.
