Does the amount really apply to the winter semester 2026/27?

The text of the fee page does not name a semester. A hint is found in the file name of the QR code embedded on the page, which contains “WS2026”. That is an indication, but not proof. Therefore check in the re-registration portal whether the amount shown there matches EUR 409.27. If it differs, the portal takes precedence.

Until when did you have to re-register?

The re-registration page explicitly names the deadline for the winter semester 2026/27. What counts is the receipt of payment. Anyone who pays later is treated as re-registered late. More on the consequences is in the guide Semester Fee Deadline: Re-enrolment and Consequences.

How do you calculate it?

Assumption: you pay on time, by 1 September 2026. Then EUR 409.27 is due. If you pay during the grace period, EUR 30.00 is added, making EUR 439.27 in total. The ticket corresponds to about 55 percent of the amount, that is six months at EUR 37.80. You will find classification and alternatives in the guide Semester Ticket and Germany Ticket: Student Travel Costs.

How does Kassel compare?

Among the universities in Hesse, Kassel sits in the middle. The gap to Darmstadt is EUR 6.59 and to Marburg EUR 15.53, by our own calculation. Because the small items differ, the comparison is only a guide. In all four cases an administrative fee of EUR 50.00 is included. What does the fee cost over your studies?

Assumption: the amount stays at EUR 409.27 over six semesters. You then pay EUR 2,455.62, on average EUR 68.21 per month of a semester. Of this, EUR 1,360.80 goes to the ticket and EUR 300.00 to the administrative fee. For a study year with two semesters that is EUR 818.54. Plan this sum twice a year into your budget, even if you use the ticket only rarely.

When should you transfer the money at the latest?

By our own calculation, the regular deadline of 1 September 2026 was a Tuesday, and the end of the grace period on 20 September 2026 a Sunday. Because the receipt of payment counts, the practical last banking day for the grace period is Friday, 18 September 2026. Allow one to two banking days for a transfer and enter the payment reference exactly as the portal shows it.
