What lies behind the levies?
The page names two levies that are collected with the semester fee: a nextbike levy of 2.30 euros and a theatre flatrate levy of 2.50 euros. The page does not describe in detail the services behind them. The name of the theatre flatrate suggests that it is linked to theatre offers for students. The page does not confirm this, however.
Whether and in what amount the student body levies such contributions is governed by its own fee regulations. The student representation can give you the current version and explain what the levies finance.
How much do you pay over two semesters?
The university does not state a separate amount for the summer or the winter semester. This section therefore calculates with the total on the page.
| Item | One semester | Two semesters (assumption) |
|---|---|---|
| Social contribution | 95.00 euros | 190.00 euros |
| Student body | 10.00 euros | 20.00 euros |
| Levies in total | 4.80 euros | 9.60 euros |
| Administration fee | 80.00 euros | 160.00 euros |
| Total | 189.80 euros | 379.60 euros |
Assumption: the amount stays the same across both semesters. This is an arithmetic assumption and not a commitment by the university. If an item changes, adjust the calculation accordingly.
How can you pay the fee on time?
According to the fee page, the fee is due at re-enrolment. The re-enrolment page does not name a separate date by which the money must have arrived; the periods given there apply. It does not say whether the transfer date or the date of receipt counts. The re-enrolment page of the university gives the periods without a year: for the winter semester from 15 June to 15 July, for the summer semester from 15 January to 15 February. For the winter semester 2026/27 the window has therefore closed. For the summer semester 2027, the period from 15 January to 15 February 2027 applies (our own transfer of the period to the year). The page carries the status 3 August 2023 in its metadata, so check the dates additionally in your heiCO account.
Payment is made exclusively by bank transfer. Cash payment at the university cash office is not possible. For late payment, the university charges a late fee of 10 euros. After payment, re-enrolment takes about a week. You receive no confirmation as such; you can see that it has gone through because you can download the enrolment certificate in the heiCO account.

Frequently asked questions
Is the administration fee compulsory?
The page lists the administration fee at 80.00 euros in the total and names administrative services as its purpose, such as enrolment, leave of absence, re-enrolment and deregistration as well as central study advice. It does not state the legal basis. If this interests you, ask the university for the basis. You pay the amount according to your notice.
What is the social contribution?
The social contribution of 95.00 euros goes to the student services organisation. You will learn which services stand behind it directly from the Studierendenwerk Heidelberg, because the university page does not describe them.
Why is there no semester ticket in the list?
The fee page does not list a semester ticket. According to the overview of the student representation on public transport (no date given, most recent date mentioned 30 June 2024), the semester ticket contract was terminated, and the last ticket ran until the end of the summer semester 2023. Accordingly, there is no compulsory semester ticket. Local transport tickets such as the Germany Ticket you buy yourself, voluntarily. The overview lists it as open whether a nationwide semester ticket will come to Heidelberg. Check the current position with the student representation.
Is the amount the same for the winter and the summer semester?
The page gives only one amount and does not distinguish between semesters. Whether the amount will change in future becomes clear only from a notice of the university for the respective semester.
How much of the amount goes to the student body?
According to the page, it is 10.00 euros for the statutory student body, plus the two levies with a combined 4.80 euros. Together this makes 14.80 euros per semester. That is around 8 percent of the total, our calculation from the page’s figures. The student body decides how the money is used within its own regulations, not the university administration.
Why is the social contribution so high?
At 95.00 euros, the social contribution is the largest item, about half of the total. The page does not justify the amount. If you want to compare the make-up, ask the student services organisation which services are financed from this contribution and have the breakdown explained to you.
For planning purposes: set the total aside as a fixed item in your budget for each semester. That way the fee stays in view even if individual levies change. If only one item changes, a short adjustment of your calculation is enough.
How to proceed now
- Compare the total on your notice with 189.80 euros and check the individual items.
- Clarify the two levies and the ticket status with the student representation.
- Ask the Studierendenwerk Heidelberg which services belong to the social contribution.
- Enter the period 15 January to 15 February 2027 for the summer semester and pay on time by bank transfer.
