Students of business and related subjects often turn to the Handelsblatt for research. This guide asks whether a student subscription exists and says honestly what we could confirm. It also shows how to check an offer and which access options usually help during your studies.
Short answer: Last updated: October 2026, offers change often. For the Handelsblatt we could not confirm a student subscription in October 2026. The address we checked could not be found, and a second retrieval gave no subscription terms. We therefore do not name prices, terms or proofs. Ask the publisher and check access through your university.
The most important points
- For the Handelsblatt we could not confirm a student subscription in October 2026.
- The student subscription page we checked could not be found.
- We therefore do not name prices, terms or proofs, not even as an estimate.
- If you are looking for a student tariff, ask the publisher directly.
- Many universities provide access to business newspapers. Check your library catalogue.

The table is deliberately empty. An open cell is more honest than a number we could not check. Once the publisher publishes an offer, the table can be completed.
What we checked
We opened the Handelsblatt student subscription page. In October 2026 the address could not be found and returned an error. A second retrieval showed only general page information and no conditions for students. The statement therefore stays cautious.
This does not mean that no offer ever existed or will exist. Publishers redesign their pages, and student tariffs sometimes run under a different name or as a time-limited promotion. The status of this guide is therefore only a snapshot from October 2026.
How to activate the offer
- Search the publisher page for terms such as education, studies or training. Some publishers list their conditions under these words.
- Note the price, the contract length and the cancellation deadline as soon as you find something. If one of these is missing, do not order.
- If you find nothing, send a short email to the publisher and ask about the offer for students. A written reply is your basis.
- Keep your Studierendenausweis (student ID card) or certificate of enrolment ready in case an offer requires proof.
- Comparison sites often show shortened conditions. Always check prices with the publisher itself.
What alternatives are there?
For seminar papers in business studies you can often do without your own subscription. Your university library may give access to business databases and newspaper archives. Whether and to what extent this applies to you is shown in the library’s database list.
For background, business reports, press releases and publications from authorities or associations are often enough. They are usually freely accessible, but you have to check yourself whether they are current and reliable. An overview of subscriptions during your studies is in our guide subscription check for students (in German).
If you regularly need business news, you can keep a log of your use for one month. Note which articles you actually read and how often. Afterwards you will see whether a subscription makes sense or occasional use is enough.
What you need access to during your studies
In business studies, the currency and origin of a source count. Check the date, the author and whether a piece is news, commentary or analysis with each article. This applies even when you find the text for free.
A seminar paper rarely needs the newest daily article. Background reports and figures from official sources are often enough. Then you do not need to check a subscription every month, only if you really read regularly.
What happens after your studies?
Student tariffs are tied to your status. Once you no longer study, the price changes or access ends. The publisher sets which rule applies, so read the terms before you sign up.
Also pay attention to the notice period. If a subscription renews automatically, it continues when you miss the deadline. The notice period and the form of cancellation are set out in the publisher’s terms and should be read before you subscribe. An overview of trial months and student subscriptions is in our guide trial months and student subscriptions (in German).
Frequently asked questions
Is there a student subscription for the Handelsblatt?
In October 2026 we found no confirmed offer. Only the publisher can give a reliable answer, so a short enquiry before each order is worthwhile.
What do I do if the publisher does not reply?
Then the library of your university remains your route. Keep a record of your enquiries with dates, so you can follow the course of events. A second enquiry after a few weeks is reasonable.
Is a subscription worth it for me?
Do the calculation once. Assumption: a subscription costs 20 euros a month and you read ten articles a month. Then each article costs you 2 euros on paper. Whether that is reasonable depends on how much of it really flows into your seminar paper or internship.
The 20 euros are an assumption, not a confirmed price. Use the calculation only to test the real price against your use.
Which proofs do providers ask for?
Many providers ask for a Studierendenausweis (student ID card) or an Immatrikulationsbescheinigung (certificate of enrolment). The provider states which form applies in the ordering process. Keep both ready, so you do not have to ask again.
