Erasmus funding rates for studying abroad depend on the host country group and on which university sends you. This page lists the monthly rates for the 2026/27 academic year where a source is available, and explains how the funding period is limited.
Short answer
For the 2026/27 academic year, Paderborn University lists a monthly rate of 600 euros for country group 1 and 540 euros for country group 2 (status September 2026), citing DAAD data. No verified figure exists for country group 3 yet. The university pays the funding, and the maximum duration follows the agreement with the host university.
Which Erasmus funding rates apply by country group?
The country groups are set by the DAAD. Check which group your host country belongs to in the DAAD list before you apply. The table shows only the values for which a source exists.
| Country group | Monthly rate | Daily rate | Source and status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Country group 1 | 600 euros | 20 euros | Paderborn University, information sheet based on DAAD data, as of September 2026 |
| Country group 2 | 540 euros | 18 euros | Paderborn University, information sheet based on DAAD data, as of September 2026 |
How long is funding paid?
The duration depends on the stay. Paderborn University funds stays of one semester for up to 140 days, roughly five months, and stays of two semesters for up to 280 days. Longer stays receive no funding for the remaining days. Such rules can differ between universities, so ask your university for its rules.
Worked example: You go for one semester to group 1 and stay 140 days. At 20 euros a day, that gives 2,800 euros in funding. For a 120-day stay in group 2, at 18 euros a day, the amount is 2,160 euros.
Which deadlines apply?
The source names no application deadline and no date for the learning agreement. It only names earliest possible payment dates: for the winter semester 2026/27 from August 2026 at the earliest, and for the summer semester 2027 from December 2026 at the earliest. Each university sets its own application deadlines, so ask your international office.
Frequently asked questions
Can I receive Erasmus funding and BAföG at the same time?
Yes, Erasmus funding and BAföG for study abroad are separate benefits. The responsible BAföG office decides case by case how they affect your need.
Does Erasmus also apply to internships?
Erasmus+ also funds internships alongside studies. The rates and deadlines for internships are not in this source and are therefore not verified here.
What to do now
- Find your host country’s group in the DAAD list.
- Ask your university about the funding period, application deadlines and the learning agreement.
- Calculate the funding with the daily rate and length of stay.
- Plan health insurance and visa separately, because the funding does not cover them.
