DataCamp for students runs through the GitHub Student Developer Pack. With a GitHub student account you get three months of free access to the learning platform for data analysis, statistics and programming. This guide shows which conditions are verified and what remains open.

Short answer: Through the GitHub Student Developer Pack you get three months of free DataCamp access if you sign up for a DataCamp subscription with your GitHub student account. The page does not state whether the offer applies in Germany. We did not verify the regular price. Last updated: October 2026, offers change often.

The most important points

  • The offer runs through the GitHub Student Developer Pack.
  • The access lasts three months.
  • You need a GitHub student account and must sign up for a DataCamp subscription.
  • The DataCamp student page could not be read in our check.
  • Whether the offer applies in Germany is not clearly verified.

What do you use DataCamp for during your studies?

DataCamp teaches the basics of data analysis, statistics and programming with languages such as R and Python. During your studies, the platform helps you get started with evaluations, for example in business, social sciences or computer science. If you want to analyse data visually, Tableau for students: offer, price and use during your studies (in German) is a complement.

You benefit most when you work with a concrete dataset from your thesis or a seminar. Then the course becomes an exercise you can apply directly.

What does DataCamp cost for students?

We did not verify a regular price for students or a price after the three months. The table below therefore shows only the confirmed details.

The details come from the page of the GitHub Student Developer Pack. The DataCamp page itself could not be read in our check. Therefore read the conditions when you sign up.

If you compare DataCamp with Excel or SPSS, you will notice differences in how they work. DataCamp relies on code, while SPSS mainly works with menus. Clarify which software is expected in your subject with your lecturer before the semester starts.

How to activate the offer

  1. Create a GitHub account and apply for student status through GitHub Education. Without this status the offer does not apply.
  2. Open the GitHub Student Developer Pack and follow the link to DataCamp.
  3. Sign in to DataCamp with your GitHub student account.
  4. Sign up for a DataCamp subscription so that the free access starts.
  5. Enter the end date of the three months in your calendar.

Calculation example: what does access cost after three months?

Assumption: you use DataCamp for three months for free and do not pay afterwards. Then access costs you 0 euros in that period. If you decide on another year, check the price at checkout, because we did not verify the regular price.

What happens after your studies?

The GitHub Student Pack depends on your student status. When your studies end, the benefits can lapse. Whether the subscription renews automatically after three months is shown at checkout. The guide When student status ends: subscriptions, licences and deadlines (in German) summarises deadlines and subscriptions.

Which prior knowledge do you need?

For a start, basic spreadsheet skills and an understanding of data tables help. If you have never programmed, learn the basics of R or Python first so that the exercises do not frustrate you. The courses build on each other, so it is worth starting with the first learning path.

How do you fit the access into your semester plan?

Enter the three months in your semester plan, for example alongside a statistics lecture. Plan fixed study times so that you use the period. If you use the access only now and then, you waste the time it gives you.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the GitHub Student Developer Pack to use DataCamp?

According to the pack page, the GitHub student account is the route to access. Without student status on GitHub, the offer does not apply.

Does the offer also apply to students in Germany?

The pack page gives no list of countries. Whether you can use the offer becomes clear when you sign up with GitHub and DataCamp. Check this before you sign up.

Can I use the access for my thesis?

The access includes the courses of the subscription. You see what exactly is included after signing up. Three months may suit an introduction to methods. Plan the period into your semester.

What if the offer no longer appears?

Offers in this area change often. If the link in the pack no longer works, the offer has probably ended. Check the GitHub Student Developer Pack page and clarify the price with DataCamp directly before you buy a subscription.

What to do now

  2. Sign up with DataCamp only if you will use the three months concretely.
  3. Check the regular price on the provider’s page before any renewal.
  4. Enter the end of the access and of your student status in your calendar.
