How Is Pharmacy Studying Structured?

Which Activity Profiles Does the Pharmacist Profession Include?
In a community pharmacy, consultation, dispensing and checking of medicines dominate, along with compounding and management tasks. A hospital pharmacy adds supplying wards and manufacturing. In industry, authorities and research, laboratory, testing or desk work predominates. These profiles differ in physical strain, contact with hazardous substances and responsibility.
That matters for disability cover because the insurer examines which concrete activity was last practised and whether it is still possible. A contract that only describes consultation work in a pharmacy does not automatically answer how laboratory work would be assessed, and vice versa.
Why Does the Target Profession Matter More in a Broad Field?
Stiftung Warentest advises that in degrees with many job options it should be possible to state the target profession in the contract so that no dispute arises when a claim is made (press release of 21 August 2018, in German). Pharmacy has a clear career goal but a broad field of activity. Record in writing whether the contract means pharmacists in general or only a particular activity, and whether a later move into industry or research affects the classification.
What Is Special About Health Questions in Pharmacy?
The duty of disclosure under section 19 VVG (in German) is the same in every subject: only questions the insurer put to you in text form count. What is subject-related is which topics come closer in study and everyday work. Anyone working in a laboratory with hazardous substances is more likely to meet questions about respiratory disease, skin conditions and allergies. You answer these as asked, not on the assumption of what is usual in your profession.
Questions about the practical year do not concern the training as such but only illnesses and treatments the questionnaire expressly asks about.
What Influences the Premium in Pharmacy?
We do not state premiums of individual insurers. Stiftung Warentest holds age and health to be decisive for price and advises an early start. Worked example. Assumption: a tariff costs EUR 30 per month during studies and rises to EUR 60 after the practical year. Over ten years the difference is EUR 3,600, which a tariff with a constant premium could avoid (placeholder values, not a market statement).
What Happens After Your Studies?
After the practical year and the final examinations career entry begins, usually in a pharmacy. With the management of a pharmacy or branch, organisation and staff leadership take up more of the work. At each stage, check whether the contract description still fits your activity. Professional pension funds for pharmacists usually provide a disability pension, the conditions of which are set by the respective bylaws.
