LinkedIn Learning for students is usually an access route through the university. The platform offers video courses on software, management, communication and careers. This guide shows what is verified for students, how to check your access and what happens after your studies.
Short answer: We could not verify a student tier with a price of its own for LinkedIn Learning. Individual universities, for example HS Mainz, OTH Regensburg and HS Niederrhein, state on their pages that they offer free access through university login. Your university shows whether it applies to you. Last updated: October 2026, offers change often.
The most important points
- We did not verify a student tier with a euro price.
- According to the university pages we reviewed, access runs through the university login.
- The university pages name the access, but we did not read the course content in full.
- The manufacturer’s page could not be evaluated in our check.
- According to our check, access lasts as long as your university access does.
What is LinkedIn Learning and what do you use it for?
LinkedIn Learning is a platform with video courses on software, management, communication and careers. During your studies it suits learning content that is not part of your curriculum, such as presentation skills or spreadsheets. The course catalogue shows after sign-up whether the courses fit your subject.
An overview of online courses through your university, including other providers, is given in Online courses through your university: LinkedIn Learning, Coursera and more (in German).
What does LinkedIn Learning cost for students?
We could not verify a student price with a euro amount. The table therefore shows only what is verified through the university.
| Benefit | Regular price | Student price | Duration | Verification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Access through the university | not verified | free through the university (per university pages) | as long as your university access lasts | University login or registration through the university |
| Own student tier | not verified | not verified | not verified | not verified |
We could not evaluate the LinkedIn manufacturer page for this guide. Therefore ask your library or IT service centre whether access exists at your university.
How to activate the offer
- Search for LinkedIn Learning on your university or library pages.
- Sign in with your university login. Registration often runs through the university.
- Check which courses are shown to you and note until when the access lasts.
- Secure any course certificates you will need before your access ends.
What happens after your studies?
Access through the university ends as soon as your university access ends. You then lose access to the courses and possibly your learning progress. Secure what you need before you leave. What happens to accounts after you leave is explained in University email after leaving: what happens to accounts and licences (in German).
Which courses are worth it during your studies?
Courses on presentations, spreadsheets, project management or data analysis complement your studies well. Check first whether your subject or university recommends suitable courses. A short list of completed courses can help with applications, provided it fits your goal.
How to secure your access in good time
Download the course records you need early. Whether and how records remain available after you leave the university is shown on the provider’s page or by your university. That way you lose nothing when the access ends.
How LinkedIn Learning differs from other learning platforms
LinkedIn Learning relies on video courses with a library on career and software topics. Other platforms offer more programming-heavy exercises. What matters is which learning format suits you. If you prefer to practise yourself, choose platforms with tasks; if you prefer videos, LinkedIn Learning fits well.
Clarify with your lecturer whether you may use course content in your term papers. Quotes from courses need source references, just like other literature.
Frequently asked questions
Is LinkedIn Learning free for students?
Individual universities provide access free of charge. We did not verify a student tier of its own that is free or discounted. Ask your university which access exists.
Is my university email enough for access?
According to our check, access runs through the university login. Which details are needed is shown on the sign-up page of your university.
Can I use LinkedIn Learning with a private account?
That depends on the offer of your university. We could not check the manufacturer page, so we make no statement on this. Clarify it through your university when you sign up.
Is the access worth it for my CV?
Courses can support learning and show skills. Whether they count for your CV depends on your field and employer. A course does not replace a proof from your studies.
What to do now
