For TU Dortmund we can document the semester fee for the summer semester 2026, but not the fee for the winter semester 2026/27. This guide therefore keeps two things apart: what the university’s information sheet (Merkblatt) shows, and what you need to check yourself in the portal.
Short answer: The information sheet of TU Dortmund for the summer semester 2026 gives a total of EUR 321.00, of which EUR 208.80 is the semester ticket and EUR 97.00 the social contribution (Sozialbeitrag). We could not evaluate an information sheet for the winter semester 2026/27, so the amount for that semester is not documented. Stand: October 2026.
The key points at a glance
- Documented is the total of EUR 321.00 for the summer semester 2026.
- It includes EUR 208.80 for the semester ticket and EUR 97.00 social contribution for the Studierendenwerk.
- The remaining EUR 15.20 is, by our own calculation, attributable to the student body.
- For the winter semester 2026/27 neither an amount nor a deadline from TU Dortmund is documented.
- According to the information sheet, the deadline is met when the money reaches the university’s account.
What is documented for TU Dortmund?
The university’s information sheet for the summer semester 2026 names three figures. The student body contribution is made up of several partial contributions according to the sheet. We do not derive their sum from the sheet, but calculate only the remainder. For an overview of the city, see the guide Studying in Dortmund: Costs, Housing and Semester Fee 2026.
| Item | Summer semester 2026 |
|---|---|
| Semester ticket | EUR 208.80 |
| Social contribution (Studierendenwerk) | EUR 97.00 |
| Student body, by our own calculation | EUR 15.20 |
| Total | EUR 321.00 |
What applies to the winter semester 2026/27?
For this semester we found no confirmed figure at TU Dortmund. One hint comes from North Rhine-Westphalia: Bochum, Duisburg-Essen and Bielefeld show a ticket share of EUR 226.80 for the winter semester 2026/27, after EUR 208.80 in the summer semester. We did not check whether Dortmund applies the same amount. So do not expect the figure to carry over, but read the amount from the re-registration portal.
| University | Ticket share summer semester 2026 | Ticket share winter semester 2026/27 |
|---|---|---|
| TU Dortmund | EUR 208.80 | not documented |
| University of Bielefeld | EUR 208.80 | EUR 226.80 |
| Ruhr University Bochum | not checked | EUR 226.80 |
When do you have to re-register?
The information sheet gives no date, but a rule: what counts is the point at which the money arrives in the account of TU Dortmund. The concrete date is, according to the sheet, given in the re-registration email or in the campus portal. Therefore plan several working days for the bank transfer. The Deadline calendar winter semester 2026/27: key dates for students (in German) collects further key dates, and the guide Semester Fee Deadline: Re-enrolment and Consequences explains the consequences of a late payment.
How do you find the amount for your semester?
Proceed in three steps. First, open the current information sheet for your semester. Second, compare the total with the amount in the campus portal. Third, ask before you transfer if the two differ.
Assumption: your ticket share in the winter semester is EUR 226.80 and the other items stay as in the summer semester. Then the total would be EUR 226.80 + EUR 97.00 + EUR 15.20 = EUR 339.00. This is explicitly a thought experiment and not a price stated by the university.
How do the amounts change between summer and winter semester?
Two universities in North Rhine-Westphalia provide documented comparison figures. At Bielefeld the total rose from EUR 333.65 in the summer semester 2026 to EUR 351.65 in the winter semester 2026/27, and at Duisburg-Essen from EUR 349.80 to EUR 367.80. In both cases the increase is exactly EUR 18.00, and in Bielefeld it matches the ticket increase from EUR 208.80 to EUR 226.80 precisely. For Dortmund this is a hint, but not proof.
| University | Summer semester 2026 | Winter semester 2026/27 | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| University of Bielefeld | EUR 333.65 | EUR 351.65 | EUR 18.00 |
| University of Duisburg-Essen | EUR 349.80 | EUR 367.80 | EUR 18.00 |
| TU Dortmund | EUR 321.00 | not documented | open |
What should you check before you transfer?
- Does the semester on the payment notice match the semester for which you are re-registering?
- Is the ticket share shown on the notice, and does it match the information from the transport operators?
- Does the deadline appear on the notice as the date of receipt or as the date of transfer?
- Have you allowed enough bank processing time if you pay shortly before the deadline?
Frequently asked questions
Why don’t you give a figure for the winter semester 2026/27?
Because we could not document it. The information sheet we could evaluate applies to the summer semester 2026. A wrong figure would be more risky for you than none.
Has the social contribution stayed the same?
For the winter semester this is not documented. Read the amount from the portal.
Who sets the student body contribution?
The student body itself, in its fee regulations. The university’s information sheet shows the partial contributions.
What happens if I miss the re-registration deadline?
That depends on the university’s regulations. Contact the Student Administration Office immediately and bring your payment receipts.
Does the ticket apply across North Rhine-Westphalia?
The Germany semester ticket applies to local transport nationwide. The exact conditions are set by the transport operators.
