Audi BKK or TK as a student: both provide statutory health insurance under SGB V (Sozialgesetzbuch V). They differ in the additional contribution (Zusatzbeitrag), in their articles of association (Satzung) and in optional tariffs (Wahltarife), for example the premium tariff offered by Audi BKK. This guide explains what to check and does not rate either fund.
Short answer: Students pay the same basic contribution at Audi BKK and TK: 87.38 euros per month (as of 1 January 2026). Each fund sets its own additional contribution. Audi BKK offers an optional tariff with premium payments, and its conditions should be checked carefully before you choose it.
The key points
- The basic contribution is the same at both funds. The additional contribution, published on each fund’s website, makes the difference.
- The Audi BKK premium tariff requires that you claim none of the benefits listed in its leaflet during the calendar year.
- The premium tariff has a one-year commitment that renews automatically unless you cancel in time.
- The leaflet describes the premium amount in two different ways. Clarify this point in writing with the fund.
- TK offers a comparable tariff called PrämieXtra, which follows its own rules.
What do you pay as a student at Audi BKK or TK?
Students pay 10.22 percent on a contribution base of 855 euros per month. That makes 87.38 euros without the additional contribution (as of 1 January 2026, GKV-Spitzenverband). The additional contribution of each fund is added on top. The calculation below shows an example. For an overview of switching between funds, see KKH or TK for students 2026.
| Component | Calculation | Amount per month |
|---|---|---|
| Health insurance without additional contribution | 855 euros × 10.22 percent | 87.38 euros |
| Additional contribution of the fund (assumption: 2.2 percent) | 855 euros × 2.2 percent | 18.81 euros |
| Long-term care insurance (without childless surcharge) | 855 euros × 3.6 percent | 30.78 euros |
| Example total | Sum of components | 136.97 euros |
Assumption: 2.2 percent is a calculation value, not a rate published by Audi BKK or TK. The nationwide average was 2.9 percent in 2026 (Federal Ministry of Health). For students without children and under 23, long-term care insurance is 30.78 euros per month (as of 1 January 2026).
How does the Audi BKK premium tariff work?
Audi BKK offers an optional tariff with premium payments. According to its leaflet (as of December 2025), the premium is aimed at members who pay contributions themselves. It requires that no benefit listed in the leaflet is claimed during the calendar year: no doctor visit, no prescription and no inpatient treatment. Regular preventive check-ups are not counted. Insured relatives aged 18 and over are included.
- Commitment: one year from the end of the month in which you join. The tariff ends after three years.
- Termination: at least one month before the commitment ends. Otherwise the term renews for another year.
- Exclusion: a premium under this tariff is not paid together with the AktivFit bonus programme or the GesundheitExtra benefit.
- Pro rata: if membership starts or is interrupted, the premium is calculated pro rata.
The leaflet is not consistent on the amount. It first states that the premium equals one twenty-fourth of the contributions paid in the calendar year, and later says it is refunded depending on your income. No euro amounts or bands are given. Ask the fund in writing which rule applies before you commit.
How does this compare with TK’s PrämieXtra?
The TK articles (as of 17 April 2026) regulate PrämieXtra in § 30. According to them, the premium equals one twelfth of the contributions paid in the calendar year, limited by the caps in § 53 SGB V. Participation starts on the first day of the following month after your declaration is received. The table compares both tariffs without rating them.
| Feature | Audi BKK (leaflet, December 2025) | TK PrämieXtra (articles, April 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Condition | No doctor visit, prescription or inpatient treatment in the calendar year | No benefits claimed at TK’s expense |
| Minimum term | One year, then automatic renewal, ending after three years | One year, automatic renewal, ending after three years at the latest |
| Premium amount | One twenty-fourth of contributions paid according to the leaflet, with a reference to income | One twelfth of contributions paid, limited by § 53 SGB V |
| Combination | Not together with AktivFit or GesundheitExtra | Not combinable with certain other TK tariffs, according to the articles |
The TK articles also contain a bonus programme (§ 26) and benefits such as osteopathy (§ 27b). Which of them matter to you depends on which offers you use.
Which questions should you ask Audi BKK?
Before you commit to the tariff, a written enquiry is worthwhile. These four questions cover the essentials:
- How is the premium calculated: as a share of contributions paid, or depending on income?
- How does a single doctor visit during the year affect the premium?
- When exactly does the commitment start and end if I join at the end of a month?
- Does the tariff also apply to students with their own membership?
Frequently asked questions
Do I pay a different amount at Audi BKK than at TK?
The basic contribution is the same. The additional contribution can differ. Use the rate the fund publishes on its website, not the example in this guide.
What happens if I need a doctor during the premium tariff year?
The leaflet ties the premium to the absence of the listed benefits in the calendar year, so the premium for that year would not be paid. Ask the fund to confirm in writing how a single treatment would affect it.
Do I have to choose an optional tariff?
No. Optional tariffs are voluntary, and you receive the statutory benefits without one.
Do the fund commitment and the tariff commitment apply at the same time?
Yes. Membership in a statutory fund carries a twelve-month commitment under § 175 para. 4 SGB V. The tariff has its own deadlines. Check both rules separately before you switch.
Next steps
- Ask Audi BKK in writing how the premium is calculated, and request the current additional contribution.
- Consider whether you are likely to need doctor visits, prescriptions or hospital stays in the coming years.
- Read TK’s articles on PrämieXtra (§ 30) and its bonus programme (§ 26).
- Clarify the deadlines under § 175 SGB V before you cancel. Your registration with the new fund replaces the termination with the old one.
