Which items make up the fee at Münster?
The university lists the semester fee as a list. The table takes over the items in the order of the page and adds the total.
| Item | Amount for the winter semester 2026/27 (fee page, accessed October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Studierendenwerk Münster | 119.77 euros |

| Culture semester ticket (Kultursemesterticket) | 3.40 euros |
| Semester ticket | 226.80 euros |
| Total | 369.50 euros |
The total matches the figure on the page, which explicitly gives 369.50 euros for the winter semester 2026/27. The semester ticket is by far the largest item, and all other amounts together make up 142.70 euros. The page does not list a separate administration fee.
How does the payment request reach you?
The university distinguishes between students who are already enrolled and new students. If you are already enrolled, you receive the payment request by email to your university account. New students receive their university ID together with the payment explanations at enrolment.
Therefore, check your university inbox regularly, especially in the weeks before re-enrolment. According to the re-enrolment page of the university, re-enrolment takes place in the last three lecture weeks of a running semester, and the reminder by email arrives three weeks before the end of the lecture period. The page does not give a fixed calendar date. According to the academic calendar of the university (status: September 2026), the lecture period of the winter semester 2026/27 ends on 5 February 2027. On our own calculation, the window for the summer semester 2027 therefore begins at about 18 January 2027. For the winter semester 2026/27, the window lay in the last lecture weeks of the summer semester 2026 and is over.
If you pay late, the page states that a late fee of 4.00 euros is due. If the fee account is not settled by the cut-off date, automatic deregistration (Exmatrikulation) begins. The page is inconsistent about the cut-off date: in the section on deregistration it gives 31 March for the summer semester and 30 September for the winter semester, while the FAQ section on retroactive deregistration swaps the dates. Clarify the date with the student office before you rely on it. If the email does not arrive, first check the spam folder of your university account and then contact the student office.
How do you convert the total into a monthly amount?
The university states amounts per semester. For the conversion, we assume six months per semester. The values are worked examples, while the amounts themselves come from the university.
| Assumption: six months per semester | Amount per semester | Amount per month |
|---|---|---|
| Total amount | 369.50 euros | 61.58 euros |
| of which semester ticket | 226.80 euros | 37.80 euros |
| other items | 142.70 euros | 23.78 euros |
The monthly amount without the ticket is therefore about 23.78 euros. If you want to save up the semester fee as a reserve, the total of 61.58 euros per month gives you a reliable figure.
What is behind the small items?
Five of the seven items are below 20 euros. The supplementary insurance for students costs 0.23 euros, the university radio share 0.40 euros and student sports 1.40 euros. The culture semester ticket adds 3.40 euros, and the tasks of the student body 17.50 euros. The university, not this guide, explains which services stand behind these items. Especially with small amounts, it is worth looking at the fee regulations so that you know on what basis they are levied.
If you want to keep an eye on the total cost of studying in the city, the guide Studying in Münster: Costs, Housing and Semester Fee 2026 provides information on housing and other expenses. The semester fee is only one component there.
Frequently asked questions
Is the university radio contribution compulsory?
The page lists it as an item of 0.40 euros. Whether and how it is levied, and whether an objection is possible, is governed by the regulations of the university. If necessary, ask the student office before you treat the payment as a matter of course.
What is the supplementary insurance for students?
The page lists it at 0.23 euros in the semester fee. You need to ask the university which services it includes. It does not automatically replace your health insurance. You arrange that separately with your health insurer or private insurer.
What do I pay as a new enrolled student?
New students pay the same items, but they receive the payment explanations together with their university ID at enrolment. Check the explanations straight away, so that you do not notice only shortly before the deadline that something is missing.
When is the amount due?
The university does not give a fixed calendar date, but the last three lecture weeks of the current semester. For the summer semester 2027, on our calculation, these are the weeks from about 18 January to 5 February 2027. The payment request you receive by email is binding. Follow the date stated there, not information from forums or older guides. Enter the deadline in your calendar straight away, so that you do not rely solely on the email reminder.
Where do I transfer the money?
You receive the bank details and the payment reference with the request. Compare them with the information on the university page before you transfer. Do not pass on any data that you did not receive through an official channel. If the details in the request and on the university page differ, clarify this with the student office first.
